B2 Group at the ACT Annual Dinner 2017

 08 November 2017

 Grosvenor House Hotel, London,

B2 Group attended the prestigious Association of Corporate Treasurers Dinner in in the wonderful surroundings of the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane. Amongst 1,200 Bankers, Treasurers and Accountants, the scale and the influence of the ACT continues to be enhanced and B2 is delighted to be a supporter of what they do. Last night’s event supported the charity Fareshare, which looks at tackling hunger and food waste in deprived areas. The night’s events included a raffle and silent auction with all proceeds going to the deserving cause.

The main “entertainment, “for the evening was the RT Honorable Ed Balls, now a celebrity in his own right following his escapades on Strictly Come Dancing. Easy to forget he had a long and distinguished career in politics spanning over two decades. He clearly has his own Gangnam style these days!

The ACT is founded on its membership and their considerable collective expertise. More and more Treasurers are actively participating in strategic decision making and using their skills to support the banking industry with better insights into treasury and the evolving needs that Treasurers have. It is both an opportunistic and challenging time for Banks and Treasuries alike. Against a backdrop of regulatory change and huge technological strides, Treasurers are rightly demanding more from their Banks and key partners. Whether it be practical application of blockchain or better access to data via API and open banking architecture, Treasurers want to be better connected to their systems and their data. This includes their Banks. Treasurers are right to want and expect-real time cash positions, intra-day reconciliation, pre-validated payment files, file agnostic connectivity, and perhaps most important of all the threat of Cyber Security breaches. As databases become more open and the use of data becomes more sophisticated, so the underlying needs of a Treasurer will change. For example we often hear a Treasurer saying “We need a TMS,”  but do they actually or are they evolving to where they need a “CMS,”  that is to say a truly integrated cash management system and configurable cash portal that can integrate with its environment. Anyway, more to come on this topic in the next blog but back to the ACT for a moment. The ACT, and indeed the B2 Group, are looking forward to The ACT Smart Cash Conference in London, and plans are already in motion for the Annual ACT Conference next year in Liverpool, 15/16th May – both must-attend events for your calendars.
